Company Overview
Established in 1980, Doug Phillips brings over 40 years of experience in both public and private sectors. Since incorporating in 2005 and relocating our head office to Maldon, Essex, we have grown to include a 20,000 ft² joinery manufacturing facility on-site.
We’re proud of our reputation for turning innovative joinery concepts into practical, high-quality solutions, overseeing every step from design through to delivery and on-site completion. Our consistent collaboration with tier 1 and 2 clients, coupled with a strong commitment to quality, has secured ongoing partnerships and repeat business.
Apprenticeships lie at the heart of our company culture, with many senior managers beginning as trainees in our Maldon factory. We actively support local communities, offering long-term employment opportunities.
Our business upholds rigorous standards through accreditations like Achilles, ISO 9001, and FIRAS, ensuring quality management and fire door safety. Additionally, our FSC membership reflects our dedication to sustainable sourcing from responsibly managed forests.

Management Structure
The board of directors at Doug Phillips come from a multi-disciplined background within the construction industry and they have all been with the company for over 15 years.
Dave Adams
Contracts Director
Dave Adams joined Doug Phillips Carpenters & Joiners as an apprentice in 1988 and quickly worked through the ranks to Project Manager. Dave was elected to the Board of Directors in 2005 in control of Contract Management. Dave’s ability to achieve completion of challenging and unique projects on time and within cost whilst maintaining a healthy client relationship is a strong asset to the company.
Mark Shorney
Contracts Director responsible for Health and Safety
Mark commenced his career working with various disciplined contractors before making the move to Doug Phillips in 2003. Mark's QS background together with specialist sub-contracting knowledge makes him a valuable member of the team. Mark also has a strong background in health and safety and is responsible for managing our in-house health and safety teams. Mark is passionate in maintaining Doug Phillips’ excellent health and safety records and is constantly challenging existing methods of working to achieve a safe workplace.
Mike Ross
Commercial Director
Mike experienced a varied range of jobs in his early years from working for news teams in Australia to International banks in Singapore before joining a PQS company in London. Mike made the move to Doug Phillips in 1997 as a QS and now holds the position of Commercial Director.
